Known as Shiraz in Australia & Syrah in most of the Old World. Single varietal Syrah can be floral in youth, developing more peppery & herbaceous notes as it ages. Some examples also display notes of tanned leather, smoky notes and fruity blackcurrant & liquorice. Though Shiraz is genetically identical to Syrah, there are stylistic differences to the wines produced. Shiraz tends towards being bright & fruity, full of blueberry & blackberry notes, along with subtle chocolate & peppery edges.
