Also known as Cariñena in Spain & Cariganen in the USA. This black-skinned grape is found along Mediterranean coastlines & is often used in blends, adding body & depth of colour to more aromatic, flavourful wines. Carignan prefers warm, dry climates which allow high tannins, acid & colour to develop.
