This dark-skinned grape is synonymous with Tuscany and is the most planted grape variety in Italy. The best examples have high acidity, firm tannins & are well-balanced. Notes of black cherry & dark stone fruit are characteristic, alongside hints of tomato leaf & dried herbs. The use of oak can produce richer plum & raspberry notes.
