An ancient white wine variety also known as Piquepoul, which translates as ‘stings the lip’, referring to the grape’s high acidity. The most famous version is Picpoul de Pinet which produces taut, full-bodied whites that have wonderful herbal & citrus aromas. Picpoul vines thrive in sandy soils and so are only found in coastal vineyards. Some Portuguese & Spanish vineyards also grow Picpoul, where it is known as Picpoll or Avello.
