This red wine grape variety is historically linked to Bordeaux and the South of France, but it is also increasingly well known in Chile. Like its parent grape Cabernet Franc, Merlot is fairly robust and copes well in cool soils, though as an early ripener it can be vulnerable to frost. Known for its plummy, black fruit notes, Merlot is a wonderful all-rounder beloved everywhere.
